The Smithtown Stitchers Quilt Guild was formed in 1982 to encourage awareness and
appreciation of quilting.  We wish to foster the development of the skills and artistry of
quilt making.  The Smithtown Stitchers has an ongoing commitment sewing quilts for
donation.  Members of the guild are encouraged to join our Comfort Quilters in making
quilts for local organizations in need.

The Guild
meets monthly on the third Monday at 7:30PM.

President's message:

Spring has finally sprung!  It never fails to amaze me how fast all the trees and bushes awake
from their winter slumber and get their leaves.  It seems to happen overnight!  Thanks to all
the rain for keeping us inside to complete our quilting projects and start new ones.
Springtime, after all, is a time for rebirth and starting anew, especially a new quilt project.
The longer days remind us that summer is just around the next corner.  In June, Carol Doak, a
celebrated teacher, lecturer and award-winning quilt maker, will be giving a lecture and
workshops on her trademark methods of paper piecing.  All the workshops are full so be sure
not to miss Carol’s lecture at the general meeting.
Also in June, the monthly Themed Raffle will be to honor all “fathers” by wearing a man’s tie to
the meeting.  The tie can be quilted, hand made, or a store bought regular tie or bow tie. It
must be worn around your neck when checking in at the Membership table to qualify for the
raffle.
There are still just a few President’s Challenge 2009 “Go Green Tote” kits available and they
are $2 each. (Please, one per member.) The rules are simple, using the denim fabric and
directions in the kit along with some of your own fabric to make a “Go Green Tote”.  Don’t be
a procrastinator like me!  July will be here before you know it!  The Challenge Totes are due
back at the July meeting for the membership’s vote.  The maker of the “Go Green Tote” with
the most votes will win a prize.  So, put on your thinking caps and personalize your tote with
your own fabric and lots of embellishments.
“The Road to Going Green” is the Guild’s 2009 Raffle Quilt.  Frieda Schlesinger is working
hard to get our raffle quilt together so it can start circulating to all the summer and fall
festivals.  This is an easy way to help with a guild project.  Just volunteer with a friend or two,
pick a festival and enjoy the day selling raffle tickets.
Remember to always keep yourself in stitches.
With Warm Regards,
Tina Pearsall
