Comfort Quilts is the Smithtown Stitchers community service project. Our members
make quilts in various sizes. The quilts are distributed to local area hospitals. The
project delivers approximately 600 quilts annually.
Please visit the Comfort Quilt table and volunteer to help. There is always a need for
people to cut fabric into squares, sew squares together and tie quilts. There are kits
of precut blocks ready to be sewn together. These kits can be made into lap size or
twin size tops. (It's your choice) They are a great way to practice new stitches by
machine or by hand, try out new threads or hone your piecing skills.
49 Quilts were turned in this past month, including 20 for the Veterans Red, White,
and Blue Quilt Project.
Way to go! Keep up the good work!

THE SMITHTOWN LIBRARY QUILTERS
The Library Quilters meet at the Smithtown Library on the FIRST Saturday of each
month from 10AM to 2PM. All are welcome.
Please see the Smithtown Library newsletter for dates and further information.
LOOKING FOR A NEW CHAIRPERSON!!
Besty has worked very hard for many years as the Chairperson but has to step down. She
has laid down all the frame work necessary to get the donated quilts to where they need to
be, so your job will be easy. Both Besty and Barb can still help out at the meetings. Please
see Betsy at the next meeting if you would like to take over as Chairperson. Thank you.
VETERAN QUILT PRESENTATION
All quilts must be turned in at the general meeting on Monday, October 20.
The presentation will be held at 9AM on October 23, 2008 at the Veteran's
Home in Stony Brook. (off Nichols Rd., near Stony Brook Hospital)
Any and all Smithtown Stitchers should plan on attending the festivities.
